Ngiru Ngiru (New Zealand Tomtit)

from $7.50

Soft Pastel on Clairfontaine Pastelmat (600mm tondo)

The South Island Tomtit is a special wee songbird, frequently seen in bush around the South Island, most often seen flitting about remote forest areas. I've only had the privilege of seeing them a small number of times, mostly in Stewart Island and Ulva Island.

The Māori name of the North Island tomtit is miromiro, while the South Island tomtit is known as ngirungiru.

The reference photo was taken by Glenda Rees, with kind permission. I very much enjoy following Glenda's photography online.
